STEF RAE is a contemporary Australian expressionist painter working primarily in large-scale oil on canvas. Her practice is rooted in process and emotional honesty, often unfolding through automatic gestures, layered abstraction, and a push-pull between control and chaos. Emerging from a background in surreal and introspective painting, her recent work marks a significant shift - not only in palette and form, but in psychological presence. She leans into discomfort, contradiction, and vulnerability, embracing the unresolved as a site of transformation.
